How Do I Grow My Brand?

“How do I grow my brand?” is a question I get asked during many brand consultations. So I decided to write down my typical response in the hopes it helps you grow a successful brand that gives you the life you want.

But first, if you hear the term branding and make this, “I’m confused but acting as if I’m not face” 🥴. I've got you covered. Check out my previous blog post where I go in-depth into what branding is and why it’s important.

what is branding

To give you the CliffsNotes, branding is when everyone who encounters your business, whether they’re a customer or not, comes away having the same experience. By this I mean they can all agree on:

  • What you look like: Your brand identity.

  • What you sound like: Your brand messaging.

  • What you solve: Your brand purpose.

When everyone interacting with your business describes your brand in more or less the same way, then you know your brand is solid.

Ok, so you have a solid brand and you want to grow it. Many think growing a brand means having more Instagram followers or even being fully booked up. But growing a brand is synonymous with growing your brand awareness. Think about all the household brand names we recognize with little effort—Google, Apple, Vans. Their brand awareness is incredible. Yes, they might have millions of social media followers but think about how many other brands have millions of followers and you don't know their name.

It's not about the numbers, it's about how well-known your business can be within your industry. To come to the point where people mention your business name and they know who you are and what you do. That is the goal.

To reach household brand name status, there are 2 interconnecting branding pillars you’ll want to have fully identified:

  • Who is your target audience?

  • What is your unique brand purpose?

The most important step in growing your brand is knowing your target audience very well. Really get into the details of who this person is, what they believe in, their buying habits. Plus, all that super important info will help you determine what your purpose is as a brand.

With these two branding pillars in place, you’ll be able to:

  • Share valuable content that fosters engagement.

  • Build a website visitors return to.

  • Have services people want to buy.

  • Have a framework for devising a marketing strategy that makes sense for your customers and your brand purpose.

  • Stand out from the competition because you’ll have your sh*t together.

Growing your brand is all about growing your brand awareness, which is fancy term for saying more people will know who you are and what you do. But you can only increase this awareness by meeting your audience where they already like to be, showing them you have similar values, and, providing them with the solutions they seek. Only then will they have no choice but to stop and say, “Ooh, this is for me. Let me share it with other people in my network.” And that my friends is how you grow your brand.

To recap:

  • Know your target audience well.

  • Know your unique brand purpose.

  • Tailor your services to your audience and purpose.

  • Implement well-thought-out marketing strategies that make sense for your business (don’t be generic).

  • Build an empire.
