Who Said TV Was Bad for You?

Watching TV is my happy place and I’m pretty proud of this fact. Making good TV is an art and I’ve learned so much from being TV-obsessed since I was a toddler.

TV taught me how to tell a story, it opened my eyes to different cultures, and it has given me unlimited access to design inspiration. Whenever I have designer’s block, a good journey down TV lane gives me everything I need to get back at it.

So, today, I’m taking 3 recent shows I’ve been watching and breaking down their aesthetic into a color palette. Because I really meant it when I said TV inspires my brand design.

First up, The Perfect Couple

A really quick intro: Netflix show, set in Nantucket, absurd murder mystery, surprisingly entertaining. The show’s set and wardrobe designers did an amazing job of bringing to life that cottagecore, serene beach vibe that so many brands aspire to have. Scroll down for the resulting sophisticated, cool, and sea-salt-sprinkled color palette.

BUffy the vampire slayer

I couldn’t do a TV-inspired blog post without including one of my favorite shows in existence, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (I don’t even need to explain this one, you know what it is.) As I’ve been rewatching the series, I’ve been catching myself saying, “Oh, that’s where I got my style from.” The show’s grungy meets whimsical aesthetic explains so much about me. Why I love black and pastel neons. Dark and brooding with hints of light-hearted humor—Buffy’s color palette slays.

Beetlejuice

Ok—I cheated. This isn’t a TV show but it’s Halloween and I couldn’t miss the opportunity to take a stab at rethinking Beetlejuice’s color palette. I challenged myself to not think of the purple, lime green, and pinstripe color combo this movie is so well known for. My thought was, what would Beetlejuice look like if it was a wellness brand?
